The Canadian UN-Informal Regional Network 2010 will be held in Kelowna, April 23 and 24, 2010, in conjunction with Global Citizen Kelowna Week. Canadian NGOs with Special Consultative Status with the UN's Economic and Social Council are invited as are other Canadian NGOS working toward the realization of the UN's Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The objective of the forum will be to develop the Canadian NGO position on the 2010 topic: Implementing the internationally agreed goals and commitments in regards to gender equality and empowerment of women". This position will be delivered to the UN High Level Segment discussions held at the UN later in 2010.
It is anticipated that the forum will include updates, best management practices and overviews of what is being done around the world toward the realization of Millennium Development Goal #3: Promote gender equality and empower women ... elimate gender disparity in primary and secondary education preferably by 2005, and at all levels by 2015.
The forum will include a variety of speakers and Q and A sessions.
The morning of Saturday, April 24th will be dedicated to the development of the paper presenting the Canadian position that will be delivered to the UN High Level Segment discussions held at the UN later in 2010.
