Volcanic Ash Strands Marc Kielburger
Iceland's volcanic ash has finally impacted Kelowna. Marc Kileburger, the charismatic co-founder of Me to We and Free the Children, was slated to speak Thursday night at the Kelowna Community Theatre as part of the Global Citizen Week celebrations. Unfortunately, Marc is currently stranded in Europe due to the volcanic ash crisis and will be unable to attend. However, recognizing the significance of Global Citizen Week, Free the Children and Me to We have provided Spencer West and Louise Kent in his stead.
Inspirational and charismatic, Spencer West will speak candidly about the struggles he ovecame after losing his legs at the age of five, and how he never lost the hope or courage he needed to overcome personal obstacles. Filled with both humour and humility, his thought-provoking message inspires people to find opportunity in every challenge. With every speech, Spencer leaves an indelible mark on his audiences, instilling hope and strong leadership so that they can inspire others to create positive change.
Louise Kent is a musican and storyteller. It comes out in her music, her speeches, the way she fills a room. Since 2004, Louise has told these stories to more that 250,000 as a motivational speaker and performer with Me to We. Louise is the first artist with the me to We Music, a socially-responsible label that spotlights social issues through the universal language of music. She has been on Oprah's O Ambassadors Roots of Action speaking tour across North America, and has shared the stage with some of the world's most impressive leaders and entertainers including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Mia Farrow, John F. Kennedy Jr., Sarah McLachlan and Jason Mraz.
The exciting Global Citizen Week event will take place Thursday, April 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the Kelowna Community Theatre. Tickets are available at the door; $10.00 for adults $5.00 for students and teachers. Proceeds from the event are going to Free the Children's work in Haiti
